Accessible Travemünde

Travemünde can be enjoyed well with mobility needs too: since August 2026 a step-free access with beach mats leads to the water on the town side; there are also free beach wheelchairs, accessible beach chairs, accessible toilets and mobility-aid hire in town. Step-free right to the water – new beach section

Where: Town side, beach access Steps No. 7 (in front of the ATLANTIC Grand Hotel)

Since 21 August 2026 a firm path of blue beach mats leads close to the water on the Travemünde town side. The mats have tactile guide strips that also help with orientation for people with limited vision.

A comparably equipped section has also been created on the Priwall, where the resting areas are combined into a larger platform; the mat path is to be extended further towards the waterline later on.

The Kurbetrieb invested around €150,000 in both sections – based on a unanimous mandate of the Lübeck city council and the TEK 2030 tourism concept.

The visitor tax offers reductions for severely disabled guests: a disability degree of 100 exempts fully, from a degree of 50 half the fee applies, and a companion with mark B is free – details are on the visitor tax page.

Accessible toilets

For the accessible facilities there is a Euro toilet key; it can be borrowed against a €30 deposit at the tourist information (Travepromenade).

Promenade and paths

The Travepromenade by the harbour is flat and wide and can be used well with a wheelchair or walker; from here the tourist information, ferry landing and many shops are reachable. For individual beach accesses and ramps: design and condition can vary by section and season – follow the signage on site and, if in doubt, ask the tourist information.

Low-barrier arrival and parking

Travemünde is reachable by train (Travemünde Strand station is right on the promenade), by bus and by car. Accessible parking spaces and step-free routes change seasonally – current locations, stops and parking are best planned via the arrival page with live departures and via the tourist information.

Is there a step-free beach access to the water in Travemünde?

Yes. Wheelchairs are hired by Sanitätshaus Ostsee Medizintechnik, electric scooters by Grall’s Mobilitätshaus; MeinHilfsmittel (Sopamo GmbH) also arranges mobility aids.
