How this site measures
Every number on this site should be traceable: what is measured, how often, from which source – and what cannot be concluded from it.
About this site
Travemünde heute is an independent project by Christian Fizia from Travemünde – not an official site of the city of Lübeck or the resort administration. Its purpose is simple: to gather the information about Travemünde that is scattered across many portals in one place – with open sources, a visible verification date and this traceable methodology. The site is growing in scope; full operator details are in the imprint.
Rating history (planned)
For listed venues, the publicly visible overall rating and the number of reviews are retrieved once a day via the official Google API. Only these two numbers plus the date are stored. Review texts or author names are never stored.
These numbers form the history. If the number of visible reviews drops, that is shown – without any statement about the cause. Reviews disappear for many reasons: Google removes detected fakes automatically (over 240 million in 2024 alone), authors delete their own posts, accounts are closed, or businesses have inadmissible reviews checked. Which reason applies in a given case cannot be determined from outside – and is therefore not claimed here.
The displayed values are documented observations, not a rating of the venue by this site. The observation start date is shown on every history; there is no retroactive data.
Illustrative chart with invented numbers – not real data.
Places directory
The directory combines two sources: structure, location and opening hours come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0); photos, descriptions and rating values from the public Google Maps listings. Photo rights remain with their authors; every rating links its Google Maps listing as the source. Details can age – when in doubt, the linked website of the place counts.
Live readings
Weather and water temperature come from Open-Meteo, the water level from the official Travemünde gauge (Pegelonline/WSV), the bathing water status from Schleswig-Holstein open data (official laboratory samples, roughly monthly in season – not a live reading). Every value carries its source and timestamp.
Social overview
Posts in the social overview are gathered automatically via open APIs (Bluesky search, Mastodon hashtag) – no fixed account list. Only short text excerpts with a link to the original are shown; images are not copied. Content and rights remain with their authors. Instagram offers no open API, so only a reference link is shown.
Events and verification date
Events are maintained editorially; every entry states its source and the date of its last verification. Overdue entries are visibly marked rather than hidden.
Coast planner
The day planner selects exclusively from this site’s verified place database – it cannot invent destinations. Composition runs rule-based in the browser: interests, season, weekday and the weather forecast filter the candidates, then a schedule is built without overlaps and with buffer time. Walking times are marked as estimates (straight line with a detour factor), not navigation routes. Inputs are not sent to any server; the last plan lives only in your own browser.
