The municipal ferry shuttles between the Vorderreihe and the Priwall – the car ferry around the clock, at short intervals during the day. Special times apply during Travemünde Week.

Where does the Priwall ferry run?

  1. Car ferry: Vorderreihe ↔ Priwall The short crossing in the town centre – for cars, bikes and passengers, about five minutes. Across lie the Passat and the Priwall beach.
  2. Passenger ferry: Nordermole ↔ Priwall The second, more northerly line at the Nordermole – passengers and bikes only, no cars. It runs year-round with seasonal hours (until 10:30 p.m. in summer, 8 p.m. in winter); the return from the Priwall leaves immediately after arrival.

Who travels for free?

Priwall residents with their main residence on the peninsula cross free of charge, as does hand luggage (bags, cases, folding bikes). Everyone else pays the tariff. Regular commuters travel far more cheaply with a weekly, monthly or annual pass than with single tickets. Arriving by car? Find parking and petrol stations in town beforehand.

The car ferry runs around the clock, 365 days a year: during the day (about 5 a.m. to 10:45 p.m.) it shuttles every 10 to 15 minutes; at night it departs Travemünde on a fixed schedule – every quarter-hour from 11 p.m. to midnight and 3 to 4 a.m., every half-hour from midnight to 2 a.m.; from the Priwall it returns immediately after arrival. Does the Priwall ferry run at night?

Yes. The car ferry also runs through the night – every half-hour between midnight and 2 a.m. (at minute 00 and 30 from Travemünde), every quarter-hour between 11 p.m. and midnight and between 3 and 4 a.m. The separate Nordermole passenger ferry, by contrast, keeps fixed seasonal hours and does not run at night (except for extended times during Travemünde Week and on New Year’s Eve).

How long is the crossing to the Priwall?

Only a few minutes – the Trave is narrow here. From the Vorderreihe landing to the Priwall takes barely longer than boarding and disembarking.

Can you reach the Priwall by car without the ferry?

Only via the long land route through Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (eastern side, via the A20). For visitors from Travemünde the ferry is the only practical way. There is no tunnel to the Priwall.
